Nikil Saval

Nikil Saval won the Ward’s endorsement with more than 90% of the vote. Saval is a first-time candidate challenging Larry Farnese, the district’s three-term incumbent. A writer and an organizer, Saval has fought for many years alongside unions to support workers in their struggles for liveable wages and better working conditions.

“I support Nikil because his deep concern for our next generation shows in a myriad of moral commitments, from public education to climate change and health care,” said Beth Goldstein Huxen, Co-Chair of the Endorsements Subcommittee. “Nikil embodies an understated fierceness because he is passionate about doing what’s right.”

Elizabeth Fiedler

The vote to endorse Representative Fiedler for re-election was unanimous. Committee people cited Fiedler’s dedication to the needs of the community, her proactive outreach to residents, and her responsiveness to constituent concerns. Fiedler has been a powerful and vocal advocate for fully funded schools, health care as a human right, and environmental justice.

“In two short years she earned a reputation as a dedicated leader of our community with an incredibly responsive and helpful district office,” said Emiliano Rodriguez, First Vice Chair of the Ward and Co-Chair of the Endorsements Subcommittee. “In Harrisburg she's fought for the world we deserve. Last year, after witnessing millions of taxpayer dollars get siphoned off to private developers, she spoke truth to power and called to redirect those funds to fix dangerous and toxic schools in South Philly. Fiedler is the fighter we need in Harrisburg.”
